Legs and circulation: tell me what job you do and I'll tell you what to do
Sedentary professions or those that require us to stand for many hours show a greater correlation with the development of leg pathologies. Prolonged posture subjects circulation, muscles, and joints to constant stress.
What are the at-risk professions? We discussed this with Professor Francesco Setacci, vascular surgeon at IRCCS Multimedica in Milan.
1. Flight Attendants
Working at high altitudes combines the risk of prolonged orthostatism with changes in pressurization. Blood density increases, raising the risk of clots. The use of graduated compression stockings is imperative (learn more here).
2. Office Workers and Cashiers
Sedentary work causes circulatory stasis. Without the activation of the muscle pump, the venous system struggles to push blood upwards, causing ankle edema. Strong compression preventive elastic stockings are recommended.
3. Hairdressers
Prolonged static standing is among the most determining factors for the onset of varicose veins. Elastic stockings are crucial for preventing the weakening of venous walls and chronic swelling.
4. Hostesses and Event Staff
Prolonged use of high heels during trade shows leads to local trauma and circulatory risks. We recommend stockings with reinforced heel and toe for maximum comfort.
