Varicose veins and venous problems: minimally invasive treatments and prevention

Varicose vein issues affect more than half of Italian women. It is a condition that not only impacts aesthetics, but also requires attention to avoid circulatory complications.

Expert opinion:

"Our legs have to support the body's weight, especially when standing for long periods. The best help is provided by graduated compression stockings which act as a supplementary pump," states Dr. Fabrizio Mariani, Vascular Surgeon.

Biocompatible glue

Among the most advanced minimally invasive techniques is biocompatible glue (cyanoacrylate). It is a non-surgical and painless treatment that allows the vein to be closed in about 20 minutes without anesthesia or incisions. The patient can return to normal activities immediately, even in the warmer months.

Thermoablation and Sclerotherapy

Other options include laser thermoablation (EVLT) and sclerotherapy. The latter, which is less expensive and widely used, involves inducing the reabsorption of the vessel using a sclerosing agent, making the varicose veins invisible. It is indicated especially for spider veins and superficial veins.

Keeping your legs in shape with movement and regularly wearing compression stockings can effectively stimulate venous return and prevent new dilations.
