Spider veins on the legs, a condition not to be overlooked
Tired legs and work: prevention and risks of venous disorders
There are many people who, despite not having venous disease, suffer from leg discomfort. For example, a Flight Attendant, a sales assistant, or a factory worker forced into an uncomfortable position all day.
These individuals often report sensations of leg swelling, which intensifies in the warmer months. In the absence of varicose veins, a restorative or preventative stocking (8-10 mmHg) is recommended for long-lasting relief.
Expert opinion:
"Elastic stockings can slow down the progression of the disease. The risk of complications decreases drastically if compression is used correctly," explains Professor Alessandro Frullini.
From telangiectasia to varicose veins
Telangiectasias (common "spider veins") are often the first sign of venous insufficiency. If neglected, they can evolve into varicose veins, where blood flows toward the feet instead of toward the heart, leading to risks such as skin ulcers or venous thrombosis.
Major risks: venous thrombosis
Daily walking combined with adequate elastic compression is essential to limit the consequences of venous stasis. One should never neglect a varicose vein even if it does not cause pain: prevention is the only weapon to avoid the worsening of the pathological condition.
